Fishing with Keith (First Perch Trip)...7/20/2026

by Capt Juls on 07/21/26

Just a quick report...

Went fun fishing to try and find some perch after the NE winds the day before with my friend, Keith, who is able to move his work schedule around on a short notice. He was able to go, so we launched out of Mazurik's at 6am.

We went to one spot and stayed there for 4 hours. The spot was between Catawba and Green Island in 26' of water. The marks were good and would come and go...and everytime they came we would catch a few. Then, they would go off scree and we would have to wait a few minutes for them to come through again. They never left the area, so we didn't either.

We went through about 40 perch, 2 sheep, and 5 white bass to keep 28 good eater perch in that 7-9" range, which is my favorite size to eat. The rest were gently released itty-bitties to grow up. :)
They went 7 pounds at the cleaners.

So, they are starting to go in the western basin...get out there and get after them while you can. :)
